Born is an excellent starting point for cycling tours (it's about a 25-minute ride through the Darß forest to the wonderfully wild Baltic Weststrand beach), hiking and Nordic walking, boat trips, sailing on a nostalgic Zeesboot, kitesurfing, windsurfing, fishing, horse riding and carriage rides.
Shops (including fresh fish straight from the Bodden fishermen, and Darß game and organic meat) can be found in the village and neighbouring towns, along with cafés and restaurants, some serving organic dishes. The savings bank, a doctor and a dentist are also right in the village. A local bus connects you comfortably from place to place (some routes with a bicycle trailer), as well as to the train station in Ribnitz-Damgarten.
Largely unspoilt nature, water and a health-giving climate make for a truly restful break. The artists' colony of Ahrenshoop and the nearby seaside resorts of Prerow and Zingst are perfect for a stroll, with plenty of dining options of their own.
Culture is close at hand too. Take in a performance at the open-air summer theatre, or a concert at the fishermen's church in Born.
